Hector’s Dolphin (Cephalorhynchus hectori)
Hector’s dolphin is one of the smallest cetaceans on earth, growing up to not more than 1,5m(5ft). It can only be found in the ocean close to New Zealand, most commonly around South Island. It has a rounded dorsal fin with a convex trailing edge which makes it easy to identify at sea. Hector’s dolphin is one of the most uncommon marine dolphins on the planet. There’s a supspecies of Hector’s dolphin called Maui’s dolphin (Cephalorhynchus hectori maui) which is the most endangered marine dolphin alive, there are only about 110 individuals remaining.
